I've loved my 50 Megapixel Canon 5DS/R ever since I got mine when it came out in 2015.
Getting the World's Highest-Resolution DSLR My favorite B&W film is Fuji Acros 100 II, which has better red sensitivity and reciprocity characteristics than TMax 100. If my final work is B&W, I prefer shooting on film for its greater highlight dynamic range and the fact that converting to B&W from a color digital file doesn't work well when you start invoking color filters in the color to B&W conversion process. While I don't shoot much, if any, color film anymore, I love B&W film. C41 was just much easier to turn into prints at the drugstore than printing from slides, which was and is always been difficult. C-41 has always been an amateur film everything shot for publication has always been shot on transparency film, starting with Kodachrome back in the 1930s. You have to shoot slide film to get great color on film. Its color was always awful, even back when film was all we had. Treat yourself to a LEICA 35mm slide projector with a LEICA projection lens ( not a Kodak Ektragraphic or Carousel those were always awful by comparison with crappy lenses) or a 2¼″projector (look for HASSELBLAD, Rollei or Kindermann), and a real projection screen ( not a sheet or white wall) and enjoy film the way it was intended.Īvoid color print (C-41) film like Kodacolor or Fujicolor. In other words, to love Velvia as I always have, you want to project it, or look at it on your light table, or view it in something great like the LEICA 5x loupe system 37 350. It really begs for real photomultiplier tube (PMT) drum scanner to get the scans to be as vibrant and accurate as what we see looking directly at the living, breathing film itself. Velvia is such a dynamic film ( Velvia's D MAX is close to 4.0 log 10, meaning nearly a real 10,000:1 display dynamic range) that it's very difficult to scan well on CCD scanners. If you want digital files, I prefer the color rendition I get directly from today's digital cameras. Velvia was and still is difficult to scan. When I would do slide shows from my medium-format Velvia projected directly from the live film that was in my camera, people left breathless. Likewise, Velvia is breathtaking when projected directly from our slides. Velvia shows its magic when you look at the film directly on a light table, where you get more dynamic range, resolution and color gamut directly from the film surface than we can from digital displays. Also note that I only unloaded a ton of Velvia, my favorite film which I overbought. No fears, I still shoot film, just nowhere near as much Velvia as I used to. You also need to shoot often to stay in practice learning how your meter responds to different situations and the best filter packs to use for each kind of lighting takes a lot of trial-and-error since you can't see the results immediately.

People new to the film renaissance may not realize that back when all we had was film for serious photography that I, like most of us, would shoot many rolls every day. He has, as of dawn this morning, only eight 5-roll pro-packs of 35mm Velvia 50 left. Mike tells me that most of it has already sold.
